Preservation

Chemofixation and Cryo Preservation options that exist today

Global option - anyone can do this:

  1. Buy formaldehyde 10-20% formalin.
  2. Understand the medical legal delay hurdles you face in your location, e.g., avoid an autopsy, ensure the declaration of death is swift, and know how and where to legally perform removal of the cortex (or find a professional who can do so on short notice, for technical reasons this is necessary if you want to preserve yourself too).
  3. Once legal and medical hurdles are cleared, remove the cortex and place it in the formalin solution. Optionally, section the brain into smaller pieces if you have the equipment to improve diffusion.
  4. Refrigerate the cortex as immersion fixation takes place and beyond.

This is how brain banks store brains today, and without specialized facilities, this is your best option.
